Who I am
This is the personal academic website of Dr. Nataliia Reva, an independent researcher based in Reading, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), I am the “data controller” for personal information collected through this site.

What information I collect
Information you give me
- Contact form. If you use the contact form, I collect the name, email address, subject, and message you provide so that I can read and reply to your enquiry.
- Newsletter sign-up. If you subscribe, I collect the email address you submit so I can send you occasional updates about my research and talks. You can ask to be removed at any time.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Like most websites, my hosting provider automatically records technical information such as your IP address, browser type and version, and the pages you view. This is used for security, troubleshooting, and keeping the site running reliably.
- Cookies. The site uses a small number of cookies needed for basic functionality, and analytics cookies to understand how the site is used (see below). I do not use advertising cookies.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. This website runs on WordPress and uses essential cookies that support core functions such as page display and, where relevant, secure administrative access. It also uses analytics cookies (see below), which are optional.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not stop you from reading the site, though some functions may not work as intended.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand how visitors find and use the site so that I can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your approximate location (derived from your IP address, which Google truncates/anonymises), and general details about your device and browser. This information is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally.

Embedded content from other websites
Some pages may include embedded content (for example, videos of talks, or links to publications hosted elsewhere such as ORCID, PhilPeople, or a journal’s website). Embedded content from other sites behaves exactly as if you had visited that site directly, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and apply their own privacy policies. How I use your information and my legal basis
I use the personal information described above only for the following purposes, each with a lawful basis under the UK GDPR:
- To respond to your enquiries sent through the contact form — on the basis of my legitimate interest in communicating with people who contact me.
- To send newsletter updates you have asked to receive — on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To measure and improve how the site is used via analytics — on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To keep the site secure and working — on the basis of my legitimate interest in protecting and maintaining the website.
I do not sell your personal information, and I do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.
Who I share information with
I do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing. Information may be processed by the service providers that help me run the site and communicate with you — for example, my website hosting provider, my email service, and Google (for the analytics described above). These providers act on my behalf and only process data as needed to provide their service. Some may store data outside the UK; where that happens, appropriate safeguards apply.
I may also disclose information where I am required to do so by law.
How long I keep your information
I keep contact-form messages only for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any reasonable follow-up. Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask me to remove them. Server logs are retained by my hosting provider for a limited period as part of normal operations.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you;
- ask me to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask me to delete your information, where there is no good reason for me to keep it;
- object to, or ask me to restrict, how I use your information;
- withdraw your consent at any time (for example, to unsubscribe from the newsletter).

How I protect your information
I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your information secure, including serving the site over an encrypted connection and limiting access to the data I hold. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, however, so I cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for a general, academic audience and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to the site or to legal requirements. When I do, I will revise the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
