Research areas.

My current research spans the ethics and phenomenology of war, political philosophy, and philosophy of orientation. It raises the following questions: How do we confront extreme experiences such as war and other crises and still find our bearings? How do we make sense of the world when everything falls apart? How do extreme, transformative experiences affect our understanding and perception of the world, relations with other people, and moral ground?

Primary research areas

Phenomenology

What attracts me in Phenomenology is that instead of beginning with abstract theories about the world, it asks how the world appears to us in real lived experience. My main line of inquiry within this area concerns both shared and individual embodied experience of war, and the alterations such experience brings.

My prime interest in this area is Critical War Studies, critiques of the Just War Theory, and Ethics of Care.

My main focus in this area is on the tradition of Hannah Arendt, centred on the issues of the legitimacy of the state, political violence, (in)justice, collective actions and accountability, as well as what happens when the political order breaks down.

I’m interested in how orality and living dialogue — from Socratic practice to the digital analogues of our times — advances philosophy and its history today.

My main interest lies within Informal Logic (Theory of Argumentation) and Critical Thinking, studied cognitively as an account of how people actually reason, decide, and err.

I am interested in how people orient themselves in times of crisis, how they make decisions under extreme and critical conditions, evaluate their chances, being limited in action or in time, and resist external manipulation and propaganda.
