Ethical Ontology of War

The project is in its initial state. Its aim is to develop a new phenomenological-ethical account of war by asking not only whether war is justified or unjustified, but what the nature of war is and how it transforms human existence. It combines Martin Heidegger’s descriptive ontology of Dasein with Claudia Card’s normative Atrocity Paradigm, arguing that war should be treated as a specific mode of being-in-the-world-of-atrocities, in which the basic structures of Dasein are distorted by the omnipresence of atrocities.
